QUESTIONs AND ANSWERs
Does my child have to attend all tryouts?
NO, we hope your child can attend at least 2. If you are interested in playing travel soccer you should attend as many as you possibly can. Sometimes kids have a bad day, the more we see a player the better decision we can make.
When does the new season/team start?
Kids who tryout this spring will not start with their new team until the new season starts in August. Some coaches allow new players to come and train with the team in the spring to prepare them for the next season. This decision is up to the coaches of the age group.
What is the cost to play travel?
The cost can vary from team to team and age group to age group. A 7v7 team can expect to pay $600 or less depending on if it’s a uniform year. That cost is for 10 months of soccer. A 9v9 team can expect to pay around $900, and 11v11 can expect to pay around $1000. These fees can be split up into payments to make it easier on the families. Again, these are estimates, coaches and managers will have a more accurate estimated budget to hand out at tryouts.
Does my child have to try out for their own age group?
Each child should attend their respective birth year tryout sessions. Soccer uses birth year instead of grades. For example, you could have a birth year of 2009 and some kids could be in 7th grade and some kids would be in 6th grade, these 2 grades would play on the same team. ***when registering for tryouts please register for the appropriate birth year. There are opportunities for players to play a different age group, this needs to be discussed on a player to player basis. Any questions about this can be directed to Audrey Anderson audanderson24@gmail.com.
As a player what can I expect from playing travel soccer?
You can expect 2-3 practices/week and 1-2 games on the weekends. Your team will also have the option to play in tournaments. Depending on the level of your team there could be more travel required. This decision will be discussed by you teams coach during a preseason parent/player meeting.
What league will our team be playing in?
There are a lot of leagues in this area, our boys and girls travel teams will play in either an EDP League or ICSL. This will also be determined by the age and level of your team.
What is the culture of the travel soccer program?
Since we are a community based club we try to instill the importance of community. We as a soccer program take a lot of pride in our young players and work on development of the whole player to prepare them for the next level. We try to offer different levels of play, we understand that players need to develop at their own pace and try to facilitate that environment. Our coaches will work on the technical piece of the game as well as the tactical. We will talk about being a good teammate and what that should look like, some coaches do community service projects, we also encourage our older players to help out with the younger teams at the club. Our local high school (Pennridge) has direct involvement in the club on both the boys side and the girls side. Most if not all players that are at the high school have started out at Deep Run in their younger years. We have had MANY players from our club go on and play in college.
Who will be evaluating my child at tryouts?
Most tryouts will have the age group head coaches as well as impartial coaches that will take notes on the players. This way there are more eyes looking at the players and not just the head coaches.
